Due immigrati sono intrappolati su un traghetto. Il primo è un intellettuale arabo; il secondo un goffo e squattrinato polacco. Insieme, i due sono finiti nei guai perché hanno cercato di sbarcare a Dover senza permessi. Al polacco è stato rifiutato l’ingresso perché non ha soldi, all’arabo perché il suo visto è scaduto. Quando il traghetto ritorna verso il Belgio, loro punto di partenza, ricevono lo stesso trattamento dalle autorità belghe, che li lasciano bloccati sul battello…
Two travelers on a ferry boat, one a sophisticated Arab intellectual and the other a short, comic Pole, run into trouble when they try to disembark at a port in Dover, England. The Pole is refused entry into England because he has no money, and the Arab is also turned away because his visa has expired. When the ferry returns to Belgium, the two homeless men get the same treatment from the customs officials there, which basically leaves them stranded on the ferry boat…
Mahmoud Ben Mahmoud:
Nato a Tunisi nel 1947, Mahmoud Ben Mahmoud ha studiato Giornalismo, Storia dell’Arte e Archeologia a Bruxelles. Successivamente ha seguito i corsi di regia e produzione presso l’INSAS. Dopo aver realizzato alcuni cortometraggi, è approdato alla regia di un lungometraggio con Traversées. Il suo secondo film, Chich-Khan, è stato presentato, nel 1991, alla Quinzaine des Réalisateurs del Festival di Cannes. Il terzo lungometraggio Les siestes grenadine (1999) è stato in concorso al Torino Film Festival 1999, vincendo il premio della giuria. Mahmoud ha inoltre realizzato vari documentari e nel 2004 ha scritto la sceneggiatura del film di Kamal Dehane Les suspect.
Mahmoud Ben Mahmoud was born in Tunis in 1947. He graduated in Journalism, Art History and Archaeology in Brussels. After this, he attended INSAS courses for directors and producers. After completing a number of shorts, he made his feature-film debut with Traversées. His next movie Chich-Khan was selected at the 1991 Quinzaine des Réalisaterus at Cannes Film Festival. Les siestes grenadine (1999) was screened at the Torino Film Festival, where it won the Jury Prize. Mahmoud had made several documentaries and in 2004 he wrote the script for Kamal Dehane’s Les suspects.
