La forza di nuotare è la vicenda di queste sette donne, della squadra di nuoto del club “HaKoah” di Vienna. Le donne, che negli anni trenta del secolo scorso erano state delle giovani sportive in una Vienna ribelle e intellettuale, con lo scoppio della guerra si sono sparpagliate ai quattro angoli della terra. Non tutte sono rimaste in contatto. Tutte in compenso però hanno avuto una vita piena ed emozionante e continuano infine a praticare regolarmente il nuoto.

Yaron Zilberman, approdato al cinema insolitamente dal mondo del High Tech, ha fatto un film molto curato e adatto sia al grande schermo che alla televisione. Ha incontrato le donne a casa loro, in Israele, in Inghilterra e negli Stati Uniti, documentando la loro storia. In uno dei momenti culminanti del film, egli torna assieme a loro nella città dei sogni, da cui furono costrette a scappare sessantacinque anni prima, per nuotare insieme ancora una volta nella spettacolare piscina olimpionica.
The strength to swim binds these seven women from the swimming team at the “HaKoah” sports club in Vienna. In the 1930s, these women were young champions in a rebellious and intellectual Vienna, but when war broke out, they were scattered to the four corners of the earth. They did not all stay in touch, but they have all had a full and exciting life, and still swim regularly – even now.

Yaron Zilberman, who unusually came to the world of cinema via the high-tech industry, has made a very carefully constructed film suitable for both the big screen and for television. He met the women in their own homes in Israel, Britain and the USA, documenting their history. In one of the film’s climactic sequences, he returns with them to the City of Dreams from which they were forced to flee 65 years earlier, so they can swim together once more in the spectacular Olympic pool.
