Nel 1971 circa 320.000 soldati coreani vengono mandati in Vietnam per combattere a fianco dei reggimenti americani; tra questi c’è anche Sang-gil, da poco sposato con Soon-yi. Pur non trattandosi di un matrimonio felice, la donna decide di partire ugualmente per dimostrare il suo amore. Dopo vari tentativi falliti, Soon-yi è costretta a partire con una band e, usando il proprio talento canoro, ne diventa la cantante principale. Nel tour Soon-yi, ribattezzata “Sunny”, si esibisce per i soldati senza mai smettere di cercare suo marito.
In 1971 some 320.000 Korean soldiers are dispatched in the Vietnam to fight alongside American troops; among them there is also Sang-gil, recently married with Soon-yi. Even if isn’t an happy marriage, she decides to leave for proving her love. After several abortive attempts, Soon-yi must leave with a band and, using her vocal talent, she becomes the main singer. During the tour Soon-yi, renamed “Sunny”, sings for the soldiers without stop looking for her husband.
LEE JOON-IK 이준익
Amministratore delegato della Cineworld Entertainment Lee Joon-ik, nato a Seoul nel 1959, è stato a lungo attivo nel campo della produzione e della distribuzione cinematografica, prima di specializzarsi nella regia di sceneggiature semplici ma intense come “Once Upon a Time in a Battlefield”. I primi successi arrivano con “Radio Star”, “The King and the Clown” (campione d’incassi nel 2005 in Corea del Sud) e l’acclamato “Sunny”, ambientato durante la guerra del Vietnam (2008). Nel 2011 presenta “Battlefield Heroes”, sequel di “Once Upon a Time in a Battlefield”, senza però andare incontro al successo sperato. Lee annuncia così il suo ritiro da regista; due anni dopo tuttavia torna dietro la macchina da presa con il dramma “Hope”, ed attualmente sta terminando il suo ultimo film “Sado”, con Song Kang-ho.
CEO of Cineworld Entertainment, Lee Joon-ik, born in Seoul in 1959, he has been for a long time engaged in production and distribution before specializing in movie direction for simple but pleasant stories like “Once Upon a Time in a Battlefield”. First successes arrived with “Radio Star”, “The King and the Clown” (best box office of 2005 in South Korea) and the great “Sunny”, set during Vietnam War (2008). In 2011 he presented “Battlefield Heroes”, sequel of “Once Upon a Time in a Battlefield”, yet the film didn’t meet its anticipated box-office success. Subsequently Lee announced his retirement as film director. But two years later he returned with the drama “Hope” and currently he is finishing his last movie “Sado”, starring Song Kang-ho.
