Ryu-hwan è una giovane spia nord coreana sotto copertura, spedita dai suoi superiori in una cittadina rurale della Corea del Sud due anni or sono. In attesa di direttive che tardano ad arrivare, il ragazzo ha assunto una nuova identità, quella di Dong-gu, lo scemo del villaggio, bersaglio quotidiano dei ragazzini del vicinato. Ma non è l’unico infiltrato: lo raggiungono due giovani agenti, Hae-rang e Hae-jin, anch’essi sotto mentite spoglie, di aspirante rockstar il primo, e di timido liceale il secondo. Vinta l’iniziale diffidenza verso i nuovi compagni, il veterano Rhy-hwan comincia a dispensare consigli per aiutarli ad integrarsi al meglio nella comunità, finché un bel giorno ecco gli ordini tanto attesi. La missione affidata loro, però, non è niente di quel che si aspettavano. I guai sono appena cominciati.

Ex assistente del maestro Kim Ki-duk, Jang Cheol-soo debutta nel 2010 col thriller “Bedevilled”, presentato alla Settimana della Critica del Festival di Cannes e accolto con grande entusiasmo da pubblico e addetti ai lavori per l’originale mix di horror e humour. La pellicola gli vale numerosi premi come miglior regista esordiente, eleggendolo ufficialmente come uno dei nuovi talenti del cinema coreano contemporaneo. Il 2013 è l’anno dell’attesissimo ritorno di Jang, che con “Secretly Greatly” (adattamento del celebre webtoon “Covertness” di Hun) firma un blockbuster annunciato.
Former assistant to master Kim Ki-duk, Jang Cheol-soo makes his debut in 2010 with the thriller “Bedevilled”, presented at the International Critics’ Week of the Cannes Film Festival and hailed enthusiastically by audiences and experts alike for its original mix of horror and humour. Ryu-hwan is a young North Korean undercover spy, sent by his superiors to a rural town in South Korea two years earlier. While waiting for orders which are long in coming, the boy has taken a new identity, that of Dong-gu, the village idiot, an apparently easy target for the neighborhood kids. But he is not the only infiltrator: he is joined by two young officers, Hae-rang and Hae-jin, also in disguise, respectively as an aspiring rock star and a shy high school student. Once he has overcome his early distrust of the new mates, veteran Rhy-hwan begins to give them advice so that they can better integrate themselves into the community, until one fine day there come the long-awaited orders. The mission they are entrusted with, though, is not what they have been expecting. Their troubles have only just begun.
