Rinascere in Puglia di Yael Katzir

Il documentario racconta il viaggio in Puglia di Shuni, Ester e Rivka, tre donne di Tel Aviv alla ricerca delle proprie radici. Le accomuna l’esperienza dei loro genitori nei lager nazisti, la liberazione e la permanenza per un lungo periodo di tempo in campi e ville allestite a Santa Maria di Leuca, Tricase, Santa Maria al Bagno, Santa Cesarea e altri centri piccoli nel Salento. Una comunità, quella nei paesi in provincia di Lecce, nella quale, nell’immediato dopoguerra s’intrecciano solidarietà, indigenza e prove d’integrazione. Una comunità che vedrà anche sbocciare storie d’amore, coronate da molte gravidanze, come quelle che portarono alla nascita delle stesse Ester, Shuni e Rivka.
Lo sfondo storico della vicenda viene ricostruito con la testimonianza di Paolo Pisacane, dal Prof. Fabrizio Lelli, docente di lingua e letteratura ebraica all’Università del Salento intervistato dallo stesso Gady Castel, e tanti altri testimoni di quei tempi.
The documentary follows three women from Tel Aviv – Shuni, Ester and Rivka – on a trip to the Italian region of Apulia in search of their roots. They are bound together by the experience of their parents, who were incarcerated in the Nazi concentration camps, liberated and then spent a long time in villas and camps established in Santa Maria di Leuca, Tricase, Santa Maria al Bagno, Santa Cesarea and other small villages in the Salento area. In the immediate post-war period, these villages in the province of Lecce formed a community driven by solidarity, hardship and attempts at integration. There were even love stories, crowned by many pregnancies, like those leading to the births of Shuni, Ester and Rivka themselves.
The historical background to the story is reconstructed through testimonies given by Paolo Pisacane, Professor Fabrizio Lelli, a lecturer in Hebrew Language and Literature at the University of Salento (interviewed by producer Gady Castel), and many other eyewitnesses from the period.
